Wawanesa is a great company to insure your vehilce, However if you are looking for high coverage you might be better with a bigger company. The rates are very low for what you get. If you work for the company do not expect to earn the industry average, This is due to their low premium rates they charge to their insureds and that the company is based out of Canada. They have a different way of doing business.

I've been working for Wawanesa for 10+ years in claims. Although it's not the highest paying company compared to other insurers out there, my coworkers definitely make up for it. not a day goes by that i don't have a good laugh. my superviser and manager are great. as long as you keep up with your work and do a good job, they're not on your back. benefits could be better, including a better discount on insurance for employees. other depts (ie auto and property u/w) are lacking in terms of respect for employees and are treated like school children. it's unfortunate. wawanesa likes to promote from within, which is great for potential growth however, this plateaus. management tends stay in their respectful position until retirement (and beyond) which is a downfall if that's your goal.

Wawanesa can be a good company to stand behind you when you are insured with them. Salary is on the low end, smaller company but could be bringing in bigger players with background. They are getting better at training hence co worker competence. Work environment can be unhealthy to work in. Management can witness supervisors being very unfair, verbally abusive and bereting to an employee and allows it to continue unrestrained for years. This shows in the low count for respect. Great location as lower traffic area than some places. Good potential for growth as it becomes better known. The company tries to accomodate the customer with extended times for differant area's of the company.

Wawanesa is small insurer compared to the Progressives; State Farms; Allstates but it is the best at treating their employees with respect and in providing a supportive workplace. The pay is not as high as some other firms but the workload is much more realistic than the grow; grow; grow; companies like GEICO and Progressive. (it is the vice of the vulgar mind to be thrilled by bigness...)Mgmt here does not get huge bonus packages for throwing the employees to the wolves by always increasing workloads. sorry mgmt., you have to move over to GEICO or Progressive for the big $$$,sure you lose your soul, perhaps can buy another? I work in claims dept...have worked for 3 other insurers and have lots of friends with other companies. Wawanesa is not perfect...but it is the best for policyholders and employees. Is it because of the Canadian roots? Not sure but thank good it is here in San Diego. See you in La Jolla after work.
