Voyager Bank is a good company to work for and the management works hard to keep the employees happy. In this economy the banks are being hit hard and the employees are feeling the crunch but Voyager has been making every effort to not pass that on to the employee. I don't feel like my job could be eliminated becasue they have made it a goal to work more efficiently and not over staff. this can be a problem of course but over all it is a better strategy and it makes me feel more valuable. The locations are mostly identical and the environment in all of the offices is chummy and fun. there is a nice mix of small town (shakopee/mankato) and big city (eden prairie/minnetonka) so a person could choose to move and still be able to work at Voyager as long as they made a lateral career move.

Voyager Bank has a policy of paying above peers but no one specifies who our peers are so it can be decieving. Also, they tend to pay people in similar positions or departments all the same so there really isn't any incentive to work harder, learn more skills or any advatage to length of employment. There is an emphasis on family and younger employees so that is a real plus. The benefits are excellent so keep that in mind when thinking of pay. Some of the locations are in small towns (Mankato and Shakopee) so advancement usually requires you to move to the cities. Voyager Bank promotes a fun and open atmosphere so it is really easy to come to work each day. Management is usually open to opinions and ideas and adopts new stuff pretty quickly. Overall it is a good, solid bank to work for and you get attached to your co-workers.

Voyager Bank overall has a good compensation package, when including health benefits, etc. Salary, however, may be low, in a majority of the positions. Salaries are often compared to our peer groups, however, work expectations tend to be greater/higher, and more inline with bigger banks. Work/life balance is excellent, as it is stressed from the senior management and down that family comes first. Career advancement is lacking. Contributing to this is the fact that senior management is extremely young (which also has its benefits), and that we are a 4-branch bank. When a person wants to grow professionally, the age of senior management and the lack of internal opportunities tends to be a challenge. I have seen the promotion of employees in some areas, but, overall, promotions are few and far between. Overall, Voyager is a good company to work for, and they care about their employees, but, if somebody is looking for a place to grow professionally within the organization, it may be a longer than expected wait.

Voyager is a company committed to thier employees but it is a bank and still stuck in the banking mentality. This means that it is a bit archaic when it comes to promoting women or working with job positions that are not in the classic banking structure. Voyager allows employees to put family first but that can cause problems in departments where there are a couple of people without children and if the manager has a young family there is some favoritism. Being a bank also means some conservative values are forced on employees but overall it is a really good company that cares about doing business the right way. Voyager hires quality employees and you can usually count on your co-workers to help you anytime you need it. Since it is a smaller bank there isn't much room for growth in any area except lenders.
