From Erie PA — 07/31/2010

I've been working part time here for 1 year. I was reading through some of the reviews and to my surprise, there are alot with the same issues I have. I took the job part-time figuring that with my 15+ years of Culinary experience once I got my foot in the door it wouldn't be long before I became full time. Since I have been there 2 people were hired full time for Cook 1 and Cook 2 positions. The jobs were never posted internally. They did have a full time position posted for a Sous Chef, which I was told I couldn't post for because I haven't come up through the proper channels i.e. Cook 1 Cook 2. What channels did the people they hired from outside come through? So in reality they weren't looking for a Sous Chef they were looking for 2 full time cooks, which I am more than qualified for either position including the Sous Chef position as well. I went to the store G.M. about this and I all I got was a drawn out explanation of the stores bubble chart with really no clear answer on why the jobs were never posted or why I couldn't post for the Sous Chef position. I was very clear about wanting full time at my initial interviews, and was told I could post for any job I was qualified for. Talking to other people who work at the store I'm finding out there are people that have been there 5 years or more that can't get full time which is ridiculous. They keep hiring all these part time people, why not just give the hours to the people you already have there? I really can't see how this company ranks in the top 5 year after year of the best places to work, because I just don't see it. I've had enough and am actively looking for work. I just don't see the point of staying somewhere for years to try and get full time. I've been in this business for years and my resume and work ethic speak for itself. Well, that's my rant about Wegmans. Oh! almost forgot, Exec Chef drives from N.Y. everyday and 1 of the full time people that got hired also drives from N.Y. Coincidence? I'm thinking not!
