With Met, I think it really depends upon the group/division. I have worked in two totally different units and have had two pretty different experiences. In the one group, the hours were long, and weekends were sometimes expected. My current situation is much less demanding in terms of the hours expected of me (however there is a lot of BS). Unlike one poster, I will have to disagree that there is an old boy network in some cases, which can protect bad managers.
