In 16 years, I don't believe I've met anybody who set out to be a postal worker. You either are ex-military, or have a friend or family member who works there. The pay is pretty darn good considering you only need a high school diploma. The work is VERY VERY repetitive and monotonous. The biggest issues with working for the postal service is the every changing rules and constant screwing with the work hours. People have their start times changed by 4 hours with not more than a weeks notice. For parents with kids, it's extremely disruptive and little compassion is given to the workers. But the benefits are good. Reducing the delivery days to 5 would save approximately 16% of the gasoline needed to fuel about a half million vehicles. When gas was over $4, think how many millions of dollars per DAY could be saved? The logical day to suspend delivery would be Saturday, but the postal service rarely uses common sense. Look for mail delivery to stop on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Managers are put in no-win situations by working with fewer bodies and yet told not to use any overtime. Then when dispatches are missed, guess who hears about it?

The United states postal service is a good paying job with great benefits for High School graduates, but the environment is stressful, management is very unprofessional and uneducated. the facilties are very dirty and unsafe. when you make suggestions no one ever listens.
Well i hope one day it'll get better for future postal workers.
