LANSA is probably the largest developer of iSeries software development tools (with the exception of IBM of course).

Pay at LANSA is below industry standards, unless of course you manage to work directly under a director's pet client(s). If you are technically sound, you are recognized but not rewarded, and there seems to be some indication that your team leader percolates your worthiness up to the higher level of management but you're unlikely to see any monetary rewards.

Benefits, much like the pay are below industry standard, but the consultants aren't overworked. After you build your reputation as someone reliable, and technically sound, you can occasionally work from home depending on the client you are working for, and job security level for competent/flexible people is above average. In all my time, no one was told to leave because things had slowed down. Instead, team leaders take that time to get people to become more familiar with the product line (LANSA has roughly a dozen software development products depending on how one is to classify them).

While, as a new recruit you're not going to find anyone who's a well known guru in the industry, at every turn in your tenure with LANSA, you will run into people who know the AS/400 system very well, and can help you learn a lot about OS/400 and the LANSA line of products.

LANSA has their main professional services office near the Toronto airport but the company is based out of suburban Chicago. The product(s) are developed in Sydney, Australia. LANSA Europe operates far less in co-ordination with LANSA North America but has clients in a vast area. There are employees stationed in New York, Denver, and Atlanta.

Overall, if someone wants to trade job security and the idea of working in an as/400 (iseries) niche over extravagant benefits and pay, LANSA is a good fit. This doesn't mean that you will not be challenged or won't learn anything new. Nonetheless, if you're in the eyes of the directors/managers, only then will you move up the ladder, otherwise you will have to move yourself out.
