For the past few years Delta Dental has been implementing a new claims processing system. It is a product of EDS (now HP). Metavance. What a disaster! Not only does it have major limitations in configuration, it is not user friendly. While it is true that there needs to be a common processing system throughout the “Enterprise”, Metavance is not the one. Heads have been rolling recently; but sadly the one of steel still remains. The Emperor needs to realize he is naked!

San Francisco Office, this company under the new leadership (in the last 5 years) is innovative and pre-emptive. The employees are very nice and friendly to the point it's almost unbelievable to see people smiling all of the time. Several employees have been here upward of 20 years to 40 years so innovation and change has proven hard for some of them to grasp and beyond their understanding. At this point in time, it's clear that no company offers more than 0 job security, but based on historical data, this company has offered job security to many in the last 40 years, there are still people employed from the 70's but they too have the opportunity to transition into new technologies if they take advantage of the Educational Assistance Program which encourages continuing education. In today's world, several new types of jobs are being created for which specific skill sets are necessary and it is people who don't take advantage of this type of benefit who will get upset with the changes. This company is on the move and people must keep up.

I worked at Delta Dental as an Admin Assistant but soon found out that they still refer to us at SECRETARIES. My boss was nice and some of my co-workers were too. There are lifers there meaning they have been there for 10+ years! Guess that explains the Secretary titles. There is a tremndous amount of turnover in the sales department and you are stuck constantly backing up people when they leave. Some Account Executives/Managers are really hands on and don't ask for much assistant but others want you to bend over backwards to get their job done. I'm glad I don't work there but I was able to meet some nice people that I still keep in touch with. Not really a place for an advanced career.

While the people are incompetent, they are very nice. If you have patience for people who are not that bright, than this is the job for you. They are very unorganized. On the bright side, the people are very friendly.
