The pay is actually very good for running trades if you dont take into account the amount of time spent at away from home terminal you can make over 100k a year on the main line, or work a yard job for 60k a year. Forget about weekends or holidays its a hectic 24/7 job with extreme hours and its very difficult to obtain authorized personal time off. Front line managers are generally okay to deal with as usually they are past coworkers who can relate to the job. Senior and higher managers are regulary from other backgrounds and simply dont respect the actual labour. Job security is not so great as you can expect to be layed off regularly for the first few years depending on your work location and may be forced by the company to relocate to another terminal. The work enviroment is quite stressfull at times, productivity overides health and safety, employees are regularly forced to break rules and practices set fourth by ministry of transport or face the reprecusssions of management that will target whistle blowers, rules and safety practices set by the company are generally only presented to hold the employee liable for accidents.
