From Williston, Vermont — 11/24/2008

This was a temporary job I worked during the company's busy Spring and Summer season. The company sold bulk and packet wildflower seeds as well as bulbs and live plants by mail. It was a small company with only about ten employees. The owners lived out-of-state and were on the premises only about two weeks per year. I worked in the warehouse packing and shipping orders and overall, really liked the job. Most of the people except were really nice but not over-friendly except for maybe one or two. At the end of the summer, the warehouse manager, one of the best people I have ever worked under, offered for me to stay on at (badly needed) increased pay and I happily accepted. A few days later, she sadly informed me that the owner, who had reportedly agreed to this prior to her offering me the job, then took up the position that he had never agreed to it at all. He gave a modified offer instead but since it appeared at this point that he was lying, I decided to leave. There were no benefits for the position and an hourly wage not far above the minimum. The office was nice and so was the warehouse except that they needed a better air purification system or maybe give out face masks due to all of the fairly thick dust which could arise and spread everywhere from scooping the seeds out of the bags for weighing. The owners treated everyone to lunch on Fridays from a restaurant of the employees' choosing.
